Bosiny Surf

Our boards are different in two main ways. 

No foam core: We build hollow wooden surfboards that are made of a torsion box from laser cut paulownia components with a unique construction technique.

Outer skin: Traditional shapers apply layers of fibreglass and PU/Epoxy resin directly to the foam core. We also glass our boards (using fibreglass and 100% bio epoxy resin) but first we apply a thin skin of Paulownia wood bonded to a sublayer of Aramid fabric. This Aramid fabric, (AKA Kevlar™) is an exceptionally strong composite used mainly for aerospace and military applications, in bulletproof vests for example.

While we have not yet completed empirical stress and impact testing, our boards have been thoroughly tested in heavy surf under the feet of pro’s and not one has been snapped, and no pressure dings in sight! Based on our own testing and materials research, we believe our boards can’t be snapped - so much so we offer a no-snap guarantee! This view is supported by Caina Souza, a professional surfer who has been surfing the same board for nearly a year, and so far has not made a mark on it!

Bosiny´s hollow wooden surfboards are more eco-friendly than traditional polyurethane (PU) and expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam boards in several ways:

• Instead of a petroleum-based foam blank, our cores are made with wood... and air!
• A board that lasts longer is more sustainable: our surfboards feature a super strong and durable Aramid (aka Kevlar™) sub-layer.
• Instead of petroleum-based resin, we glass our boards with 100% plant-based bio-epoxy resin.

Each Bosiny surfboard is meticulously handcrafted using highly technical construction methods. For 2024, we are strictly limiting production to just 50 individually-numbered boards per model as exclusive introductory editions.

We use Gore self breathing vents that require no action from the user other than to replace once a year (see Board Care page for details).
